MACQUARIE’S STEM SUPERSTARS NAMED, SMASHING GENDER ASSUMPTIONS ABOUT SCIENTISTS

 

Three Macquarie University academics from the Faculty of Science and Engineering have been named in 2018’s list of the superstars of STEM, announced by Science & Technology Australia (STA).

Macquarie’s superstars are:

  • Dr Lizzy Lowe – an urban ecologist, passionate about working with local communities to improve the health of our cities with a particular passion for raising the public profile of under-appreciated animals such as spiders,
Macquarie University has assumed responsibility for the research and optical instrumentation capability of the Australian Astronomical Observatory.

Effective 1 July, Macquarie University has assumed responsibility for the research and optical instrumentation capability of the Australian Astronomical Observatory, a group with 45 years of excellence in astronomy instrumentation.

The group will be known as AAO-Macquarie and will partner with the University of Sydney, the Australian National University, and Astronomy Australia Limited to form a collaborative national capability for astronomical instrumentation, Australian Astronomical Optics (AAO).
