James Cook University’s Faculty of Medicine, Health and Molecular Sciences is committed to offering courses which will in the future make a difference to the health issues facing regional, rural, Indigenous and tropical areas of Northern Australia. Our Faculty offers a Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery, Bachelor of Dental Surgery, Bachelor of Pharmacy as well as Bachelor degrees in the rehabilitation sciences such as Physiotherapy, Occupational Therapy and Speech Pathology. We also offer Nursing Science, Biomedical Science, Medical Laboratory Science, Veterinary Science and Sport and Exercise Science.

In Australia students enter their chosen health professional degrees from high school (year 12) which may be different for Canadian students. In other aspects Canada and Australia are very similar with their vast isolated areas, Indigenous populations, regional and large cities as well as their historical background. Our Canadian students fit in very well in Townsville and just have to remember which side of the road to drive on.

Our students enjoy outstanding teaching facilities and the latest equipment and learning resources. The dentistry teaching complex in Cairns features world class clinical simulation laboratories while the School of Medicine and the School of Pharmacy in Townsville recently added $20 million of teaching and research facilities, a new lecture theatre, anatomy laboratories and clinical teaching rooms.
