Next month James Cook University, Faculty of Medicine will be conducting  JCU Medical School interviews for potential KOM applicants in Canada for the 2014 intake.

Interviews will be held in Toronto and Vancouver at the beginning of May 2013.  JCU is also proposing informal individual meetings for Dental School applicants.

Medical and dental school applicants need to be registered with KOM . For more information on gpa requirements and setting up an interview, contact KOM Consultants.

JCU’s School of Medicine and Dentistry offers the only full medical course in northern Australia. The six-year, full-time undergraduate Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery degree is a comprehensive program combining integrated instruction in biomedical sciences, professional practice and clinical medicine.

The course aims to produce graduates of the highest academic standards and has a particular emphasis on tropical medicine, the health of Indigenous Australians and rural and remote medicine. Students are based at the Townsville campus for the first four years and undertake varied clinical experience including rural rotations.

The JCU medical precinct is opposite the Townsville Hospital, the largest teaching hospital in regional Australia. In years five and six, students are based at one of the Clinical Schools in Cairns, Darwin, Mackay or Townsville. Applicants from rural and remote areas are given special consideration.

Here’s what one KOM student has to say about studying Medicine at James Cook University:

“Where to begin…….there is no SNOW!!!! Australia is an amazing place I love it here and never really want to go back….I’m sure it’s just me since i’m allergic to cold and love the warmth. The people here are very nice and helpful and friendly. It does take a bit longer to get things done but they eventually get done. I was told about the crysal blue waters on the coast but due to Yasi I will have to wait to see that. Townsville is wonderful little town, rains on and off and the sunshine is amazing. Studying here is amazing soo much hands on experience and the professors and other stuff are very approachable and encouraging and caring.  I miss family very much but will have a some visits in the coming months. I have made many friends, especially with the Canadian group that came over for my program. I am looking forward to spending at least the next 6 years here and if all goes my way practice here.

I would like to thank KOM Consultants for everything they have done.”  Rafal J.
