Flinders’ Master of Audiology is a professionally oriented course for graduates interested in acquiring knowledge and skills in the evaluation and management of auditory disorders (hearing loss and tinnitus) and their consequences.  This course prepares students to begin clinical practice as an audiologist in a range of urban, rural and remote settings, to be a well-informed health professional, and to acquire critical skills in appraising scientific and clinical information.  All of which will assist the students’  further professional development.

Flinders’ Master of Audiology course aims:

  • to produce graduates with the knowledge, skills and attitudes to be competent entry-level practitioners of clinical audiology
  • to produce health professionals who are familiar with issues relating to public health and the principles of primary health care
  • to produce graduates who can function effectively in a range of primary and tertiary health care settings in metropolitan, rural and remote areas, including practising audiology with minority and disadvantaged groups
  • to equip graduates with skills in accessing and appraising scientific and clinical information and foster an attitude towards the maintenance of professional currency which will assist their further professional development.

What You Will Study

The Master of Audiology is a 72-unit coursework program offered by Flinders’ College of Nursing and Health Sciences.

The Master of Audiology consists of audiology topics, clinical audiology topics, professional studies topics, and research topics. Audiology topics, which address the scientific foundations of audiology and how they interface with clinical practice in diagnosing and managing auditory disorders, are studied alongside clinical audiology and professional studies, which provide the skills necessary to produce a competent beginning practitioner. Topics that address current issues of specific and general relevance to audiologists as health professionals are also introduced throughout the course.

The program offers innovative learning experiences including problem-based learning tutorials, clinical skills classes and clinical placements in Adelaide or interstate, and in rural and remote areas of South Australia and the Northern Territory.

Students must hold an approved bachelor degree with a minimum of 5.0 out 7.0 GPA. No specific undergraduate degree is required for admission.

Applicants will be ranked based on the highest GPA using a minimum of 18 units of a qualification from an approved tertiary institution.

Professional Recognition

Professional Recognition

Flinders’ Master of Audiology is fully accredited by Audiology Australia. Graduates of the Master of Audiology will meet the standards set out by Audiology Australia for practice by entry-level audiologists.

In Canada, Audiologists are regulated by the Canadian Alliance of Audiology and Speech Pathology Regulators (CAASPR).  Students should contact CAASPR prior to applying to any Audiology course to make sure they understand their requirements.
