Macquarie University’s Master of Clinical Audiology Overview

Communication is a vital aspect of what it means to be human, and hearing is critical to communicating effectively. Audiologist experts in the non-medical management of hearing disorders play a key role in assisting those with hearing impairments to successfully engage with society.

Macquarie’s course will provide you with the skills, knowledge and training you will need to practice as a qualified clinical audiologist. It will develop your skills in assessment strategies, rehabilitation and habilitation of the hearing impaired, as well as provide you with training in research design.

  • Students will have the opportunity to study within the state-of-the-art Macquarie University Speech and Hearing Clinic and the Australian Hearing Hub.  This gives them the ability to work alongside industry experts to pioneer new research and collaborations.

  • This course will provide you with practical experience in a range of clinical placements including at our on-campus facilities, hospitals, government agencies, and community and not-for-profit organisations.
  • Students will learn from a wide variety of guest lecturers who are experts in their fields.

What You Will Study

What You Will Study

Macquarie’s Clinical Audiology program is 2 years in length where students will partake in a combination of coursework and clinical placements.   They follow block learning calender where students to 6 weeks of coursework followed by 2 weeks of clinical placement preparation and then clinical placement.

Students will cover some of the following topics in their course work:

  • Hearing Devices
  • Hearing Assessments
  • Anatomy and Physiology of Speech Production

Students will complete a minimum of 200 hours of clinical placement during their two years of study.

Entry requirements

Students will need to have a bachelor’s degree with a WAM of 65.

They will also have to submit a personal statement that talks about the following:

  • Your understanding of Audiology as practised in Australia
  • Your reasons for wanting to enter this profession
  • Relevant personal experience of Audiology or related fields
  • Explanation of any factors relevant to the application

Professional Recognition

Professional Recognition in Canada

Macquarie’s Master of Clinical Audiology is fully accredited by Audiology Australia. Graduates of the Master of Audiology will meet the standards set out by Audiology Australia for practice by entry-level audiologists.

Audiologists are regulated by the Canadian Alliance of Audiology and Speech Pathology Regulators (CAASPR) in Canada.  Students should contact CAASPR prior to applying to any Audiology course to make sure they understand their requirements.
