Overview

The Faculty of Dentistry at the University of Sydney is the country’s oldest and longest running Dental program. University of Sydney Dental School has been training dental practitioners for more than 100 years, and they are now proud to announce the recent introduction to a 4 year Graduate Entry Dental program through their Dental School.

The Faculty of Dentistry at University of Sydney is one of the largest of the five Dental Schools in Australia and is housed within the Sydney Dental Hospital (SDH), Surry Hills and the Westmead Centre of Oral Health (WCOH), Westmead Hospital

Graduates of The University of Sydney’s DMD program will be fully qualified to practice dentistry upon completion of the degree, as well as being able to sit for the Dental Examining Board of Canada (DEB) examination to practice as a dentist (in Canada).

Entry Requirements for 2024 intake

Completed or in final year of an eligible bachelor degree at time of application (from any discipline).  Completed degrees must have been completed within past 10 years

Minimum gpa required 2.7/4.0 (approx 70% – varies depending on university studied at – U of Sydney will calculate gpa)

Admissions Test required: DAT or CDAT with minimum score 15 in each section (manual dexterity not included).  MCAT is no longer accepted for admission to Sydney Dental program.  DAT or CDAT results must have been obtained between February 2021 to July 30 2023.  Results must be submitted with application OR sent directly to Sydney admissions office by 30 July 2023

Interviews not required for 2024 intake.  In situation of equally ranked students an interview situational judgement test may be required

First round offers will go out mid September.  Offers may continue to be issued until end of January.

The University of Sydney’s Doctor of Dental Medicine (DMD) program is fully accredited by the Australian Dental Council.

Graduates from The University of Sydney’s Doctor of Dental Medicine (DMD) program will be fully qualified to practice dentistry upon completion of the degree, as well as being eligible to sit for the Dental Examining Board of Canada (DEB) examination to practice as a Dentist (in Canada).

In 2010, the Australian Dental Council and the Commission on Dental accreditation of Canada signed a reciprocal agreement which allows accredited graduates of either body to practice Dentistry in Australia or Canada. This means Canadian students returning home with dentistry degrees from accredited Australian Dental Schools can follow the same licensing process as Canadian domestic graduates. Canadian license will be fully granted upon successful completion of the National Exam administered through the Canadian National Dental Examining Board (NDEB)

All Australian Dental Schools offered through KOM Consultants are fully accredited back in Canada.
