Griffith University Dental School Undergraduate Entry

Overview

KOM Consultants are proud to introduce Griffith University’s School of Dentistry to Canadian students. Griffith’s Dental program offers a combined five year Undergraduate Entry Dental Program. In 2018, Griffith introduced a new pathway which includes a three year Bachelor of Dental Health Science followed a two year Master of Dentistry.  Graduates holding both of these qualifications are eligible to sit examinations to register as a dentist with the Dental Board of Australia, as well as being able to sit for the Dental Examining Board of Canada (DEB) examination to practice as a dentist in Canada.

From your first year in the Bachelor of Dental Health Science program, you will learn from extensive hands-on training.  You will study and work alongside registered Dentists and Dental specialists in real life settings including in regional areas and in our modern dental clinic and specialised laboratories in the new Griffith Health Centre. You will enhance your skills through professional practice placements.

The Master of Dentistry program builds on the technical skills developed in the Bachelor of Dental Health Science and is the final two years of professional training needed for eligibility to apply for registration as a Dentist.

Students will develop theoretical knowledge of dental practice and undertake extensive clinical work in the Griffith Dental Clinic and on placements in various regional clinics.

As a student at Griffith University, you will have access to world-class facilities within the Centre for Medicine and Oral Health, co-located with the Griffith School of Medicine. These facilities are housed in Griffith’s new state of the art teaching hospital.  This magnificent 800 bed hospital will include a 54-chair dental clinic, commercial dental and clinical skills laboratories, high-level IT facilities, and research facilities, all located on Griffith’s spectacular Gold Coast Campus. Griffith’s brand new teaching hospital offers the most latest in technology facilities within Australia.

Through Griffith University’s Dental School you will develop the theoretical knowledge underpinning dental practice and gain extensive clinical work in the Griffith Dental Clinic and on community placements.

Professional Recognition

Professional Recognition

The Bachelor of Dental Health Science (when articulated with the Master of Dentistry) is accredited by the Australian Dental Council.

Successful completion of both the undergraduate and postgraduate programs (five years) offered through Griffith University’s Dental School will allow you to apply for registration as a general dentist with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA).

Graduates of Griffith University’s combined Dental program will be qualified to practice dentistry upon completion of the degree and Australian licensing examinations, as well as being eligible to sit for the Dental Examining Board of Canada (DEB) examination to practice as a Dentist (in Canada).

In 2010, the Australian Dental Council and the Commission on Dental accreditation of Canada signed a reciprocal agreement which allows accredited graduates of either body to practice dentistry in Australia or Canada. This means Canadian students returning home with dentistry degrees from accredited Australian Dental Schools can follow the same licensing process as Canadian domestic graduates. Canadian license will be fully granted upon successful completion of the National Exam administered through the Canadian National Dental Examining Board (NDEB).
