The Juris Doctor (JD) program offered at Bond University Law School is a 24 subject professional legal qualification. This program is designed to equip students for a career in the legal profession, business, industry or government, in Australia and overseas. The Juris Doctor (JD) program at Bond University features excellent teaching, small classes and an extensive legal skills program, which provides an exciting learning experience that challenges you academically and prepares you practically for a legal career. You will learn the core skills needed to practice law in a modern environment through Bond Law’s integrated skills program, including

Juris Doctor (JD) students have full access to Bond University’s multi-million dollar Legal Skills centre, which incorporates electronic courtrooms, full video conferencing facilities and purpose-built mediation, dispute resolution and Professional Legal Training (PLT) rooms.

The Juris Doctor (JD) at Bond University is constructed to enable graduates to take leading positions in the public and private sectors. Bond’s graduates are now employed in top law firms throughout Australia and across 38 countries, including the USA, UK, Canada, Malaysia and Singapore, as solicitors in private practice, barristers, government lawyers, in-house counsel and academics. Canadian Highlights of Bond University Law School

Bond University has strong links with Canada and has been training Canadian lawyers for over 20 years. There are currently over 150 Canadian students studying law at Bond University. This has now resulted in a rapidly expanding group of Bond Law Canadian alumni working as partners and senior practitioners in Canada and worldwide.

The Juris Doctor (JD) is the preferred legal qualification with which to enter the legal profession in Canada. Entry to the JD is restricted to graduate students while the LLB is only available to students who have not yet completed a Bachelors degree. Canadians who possess a prior degree in any discipline can only enrol in the JD.

  • The JD comprises 24 subject in total, all being law units, with 19 of the units being compulsory and 5 elective.
  • Bond Law teaches four Canadian law subjects required by the National Committee on Accreditation (NCA)  as full semester subjects: Foundations of Canadian Law, Canadian Administrative Law, Canadian Criminal Law and Canadian Constitutional Law. These four subjects can be taken as electives within the Juris Doctor (JD) degree at Bond University. The 5th required subject (Professional Ethics etc) is taught as a free seminar to all Canadian students as an extra-circular subject.

Bond University’s Juris Doctor (JD) program is an approved degree for the purpose of admission as a barrister or solicitor in all Australian jurisdictions. Graduates of Bond’s Juris Doctor program are eligible to apply for licensing in Canada, and are required to sit NCA exams when returning to Canada for licensing.

Associate Professor Francina Cantatore has been nominated for Academic of the Year in the prestigious Australian Law Awards to be held at the end of August.

Dr Cantatore, an academic at for the past seven years, is the Director of the Bond Law Clinic and was instrumental in the University setting up six law clinics after establishing the first in 2013.

Research Fellow Dr Amanda McCullough was announced as the recipient of the Emerging Health Researcher Award for 2017, at an awards breakfast in Sydney on Friday, 20 March.

The $25,000 prize will go towards furthering Dr McCullough’s research career, and help drive her crucial work that aims to stop the spread of antibiotic resistant bacteria by reducing antibiotic prescription among general practitioners (GPs).
