What You Will Study

The first two years of this program combine studies in occupational therapy with a broad understanding of biomedicine, and various health science fields, to develop the professional competencies important for ethical and safe practice. The final two years focus predominately on occupational therapy practice skills, practical experience and specialized areas. This course offers the flexibility of an honours stream for high performing students, as well as an early exit option, allowing students to graduate with a Bachelor of Health Science after three years.

Clinical Work Experience

WSU Occupational Therapy students have the benefit of facilities in the community during fieldwork placements. Practice placements are arranged through NSW Health and the disability sector, as well as community-based private practice and non-government health, WHS, and disability providers.  Students will complete a minimum of 1,000 hours of professional practice in a range of settings through their degree.

Professional Recognition

Professional Recognition in Canada

Western Sydney University’s Bachelor of Occupational Therapy program is accredited by the Occupational Therapy Board of Australia and recognized by the World Federation of Occupational Therapists.   Graduates are eligible for occupational therapy registration in any State or Territory of Australia through the  Occupational Therapy Board of Australia. Graduates applying to licensing in Canada will be required to provide details of their program of studies to the relevant bodies and sit a licensing examination.

Students wishing to license as a Occupational Therapist in Canada should contact the Association of Canadian Occupational Therapy Regulators Organization (ACOTRO)  for procedures and accreditation procedures. The ACOTRO is the national federation of provincial/territorial regulators in Canada.
