JCU Bachelor of Pharmacy (Hons) boasts a modern integrated curriculum where students are exposed to various modes of teaching across the subject areas: lectures, tutorials, workshops, practicals undertaken in modern teaching and laboratory facilities. Simulated patients are used in workshops and students are encouraged to develop as health practitioners by being trained in skills involving not only showing their knowledge in written examinations but orally in counselling and oral presentations and examinations.

When it comes to tackling diverse pharmacy challenges there is no substitute for practical work experience. Getting out in the industry also helps you make an informed choice about your preferred specialties, so real world experience in pharmacy practice is a core part of your degree at James Cook University (JCU).

Students will gain job-ready skills through professional placements in hospitals and community pharmacies in metropolitan, regional, rural and remote locations, working alongside leading pharmacy experts in these fields.

JCU’s Bachelor of Pharmacy includes prescribed professional or clinical placements. Students may be required to undertake such placements away from the campus at which they are enrolled, at their own expense.

With over 600 hours of placement, JCU’s Bachelor of Pharmacy (Honours) degree has the highest number of clinical placement hours for any undergraduate pharmacy degree within Australia.

  • Entry into the Bachelor of Pharmacy program for students holding Ontario Secondary School Diploma:  minimum grade average of 68% in 6 university/college courses (includes math, chemistry, English).
  • Students may apply for advanced standing for previous university study.

JCU Bachelor of Pharmacy (Hons) holds full accreditation with the Australian Pharmacy Council (APC) at the Townsville campus and has applied to the Australian Pharmacy Council for accreditation to deliver JCU’s Bachelor of Pharmacy (Honours) in Cairns and Mackay in 2021.

It is the student’s responsibility to contact their local credentialing body for re-entry pathways.  The Pharmacy Examining Board of Canada (PEBC) is the national certification body for the pharmacy profession in Canada. Upon returning, students must go through an evaluation procedure with the PEBC.
