Overview

The Macquarie Physiotherapy program is the only three-year masters-level, professional-entry physiotherapy course in New South Wales.  This will develop your skills so that when you graduate you’re able to work with individuals across the lifespan to optimize their physical function. You’ll learn to effectively assess, diagnose and treat individuals with a wide range of health conditions. You’ll also learn how to encourage people to change their behaviour and self-manage their conditions to maximize their physical health. This degree is accredited with the Australian Physiotherapy Council and approved by the Physiotherapy Board of Australia, meaning that as a graduate, you’re eligible to apply for registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA).

Clinical Placements

Macquarie’s combination of coursework with more than 1000 hours of supervised clinical practice means that you’ll graduate career ready with the skills to effectively assess, diagnose, treat and educate people with movement disorders.

Entry Requirements

Entry Requirements

Successful completion of a Bachelor degree from recognized institution with a minimum GPA of 65%

Applicants need recent successful completion of at least one tertiary unit in each of the following areas:

  • Human anatomy (musculoskeletal and system)
  • Human physiology (cell and system)
  • Psychology
  • Research methods

The following tertiary level units are desired knowledge areas:

  • Biomechanics
  • Exercise Physiology
  • Motor Learning and Performance
  • Neuroscience
  • Pathophysiology
  • Pharmacology.

Professional Recognition

Professional Recognition

Macquarie’s Doctor of Physiotherapy program has been accredited by the Australian Physiotherapy Council and approved by the Physiotherapy Board of Australia. Graduates will be eligible to apply to register and practice as a physiotherapist.

Students wishing to license as a physiotherapist in Canada should contact the Canadian Alliance of Physiotherapy Regulators for procedures and accreditation procedures. The CAPR is the national federation of provincial/territorial regulators in Canada.
