Course Outline

In this program you will learn the following:

  • Bioscience
    • Gain an intricate understanding of the human body through the study of anatomy, physiology, pathology, biomechanics of human movement and pharmacology.
  • Physiotherapy skills
    • Discover how to assess, diagnose and improve people’s movement, health and quality of life.
  • Specialized areas
    • Learn how to apply your physiotherapy skills to help people with a variety of conditions which relate to cardiorespiratory, musculoskeletal, sports, neurological, women’s, men’s, paediatric and aged care health.

In your Honours year, you’ll undertake research or industry-based project work where you’ll solve real problems relating to human health and physical performance.

Clinical Work Experience

In La Trobe’s Physiotherapy program, you will start building your practical skills as soon as you start first year and will finish your degree with clinical training equivalent to seven months of workplace experience.  Throughout the course you’ll gain quality hands-on experience with placements at leading hospitals and private practices. You could find yourself in acute hospital units, rehabilitation facilities, community health clinics, private practice, sporting organisations, educational facilities or research centres.

Students can also choose to take their physiotherapy degrees global with international placement or study opportunities – students have the opportunity to do placements in many countries including Denmark, Italy, Vietnam and India.

Entry Requirements

Students will need a completed High School Diploma with minimum GPA of 85%, however, because of the competitive nature acceptance GPA may run higher.

Prerequisites: English and two of:  Biology, Chemistry, a Mathematics (any), Physical Education or Physics.

Professional Recognition

La Trobe University’s Bachelor of Physiotherapy program is accredited by the Australian Council of Physiotherapy.  Graduates are eligible for physiotherapy registration in any State or Territory of Australia through the Physiotherapy Board of Australia.  Graduates applying to licensing in Canada will be required to provide details of their program of studies to the relevant bodies and sit a licensing examination.

Students wishing to license as a physiotherapist in Canada should contact the Canadian Alliance of Physiotherapy for procedures and accreditation procedures. The CAP is the national federation of provincial/territorial regulators in Canada.
