Western Sydney University Psychology School Overview

The Master of Psychology (Clinical Psychology) is a fee-paying professional master’s course designed to develop competent clinical psychologists who will receive thorough training in evidence based clinical psychology theory and practice.

The course provides thorough training in the knowledge and skills necessary to understand dysfunctional behaviour and psychopathology, and to implement effective evidence-based interventions including cognitive behavioural therapy. You will complete specified coursework, a research project, and 1,000 hours of supervised experience in clinical and other appropriate settings.

Entry Requirements

To qualify for admission, applicants:

  • must have completed a program in psychology extending over four years and accredited by the Australian Psychology Accreditation Council (APAC).
  • submit two referee reports
  • Be eligible for provisional registration with the Psychology Board of Australia
  • If successful, Attend an interview, by invitation, with the School of Social Sciences and Psychology

Under the Australian National Law, students must obtain provisional registration as a psychologist with the Psychology Board of Australia before they commence their program of study, and for the duration of the program. In the event that the Registration Board refuses an application for provisional registration, the offer of candidature in the program will be rescinded – it is not possible to complete the program without holding provisional registration as a psychologist.

Registered psychologists evaluate and diagnose mental health patterns and provide consultation. Psychologists work in organizations, such as:

  • Department of Family and Community Services
  • Department of Aging Disabilities
  • Home Care
  • Private practices

Professional Recognition

Professional Recognition in Canada
