The Master of Speech Pathology will equip Griffith University students to begin practice as a fully-accredited, highly-competent and work-ready speech pathologist in a wide range of health, community and education settings.

On successful completion of the Master of Speech Pathology degree, Griffith University students will have professional recognition from Speech Pathology Australia and be eligible to practice as a fully accredited, highly competent and work-ready speech pathologist.

Griffith’s Speech Pathology degree encourages personal and professional development through a problem based curriculum, active learning in small groups and practical work placements that facilitate the integration of theory and practice.

As a graduate of Griffith University’s Master of Speech Pathology degree you will be equipped to begin practice as a speech pathologist in a wide range of health and educational settings. The degree will foster your research literacy enhancing your ability to respond effectively to the changing nature of professional knowledge and practice, ensuring your ability to provide quality services throughout your professional life.

Confirming Griffith University’s commitment to the delivery of contemporary, relevant programs Griffith Health has introduced a Master of Speech Pathology program at the University’s Gold Coast campus.

The Speech Pathology program is now located in the $150 million purpose-built Griffith Health Centre, adjacent to the new Gold Coast University Hospital.

Clinical Work Experience

Work-integrated learning activities (professional placements) integrate theoretical learning with its application in the workplace. The inclusion of work-integrated learning activities in the Speech Pathology degree program demonstrates Griffith University’s commitment to preparing its graduates for success in their working life.

In Griffith’s Speech Pathology program you will spend time in the work/professional environment undertaking placements at various locations. Placements in the second year of the course may be outside of the Brisbane metropolitan/Gold Coast area including northern New South Wales and (by negotiation) interstate or overseas.

Entry Requirements

Entry Requirements

  • Applicants normally must hold at least an undergraduate degree from a recognized higher education institution with a minimum GPA of 5.0 (on a 7 point scale) or equivalent
  • Desirable study areas include (but are not limited to or required to be): psychology, health science, public health, medical science, human services, education, linguistics (or a degree with a linguistics major)
  • As the number of applicants may exceed the places available, selection for admission is competitive and will be based upon (1) academic merit and (2) interview

On successful completion of this degree, you will have professional recognition from Speech Pathology Australia and be eligible to practise as a fully accredited speech pathologist.
