Master of Teaching

About the Master of Teaching Primary

Flinders’ Master of Teaching  is a pre-service teacher education postgraduate course that builds on prior learning and develops advanced professional knowledge, practice and relationship skills relevant to teaching.

This Master of Teaching course is offered to graduates who wish to teach at the primary/junior primary school level.

It includes education studies, curriculum studies and teaching practicum.

Flinders University aims to educate students who appreciate the complex nature of a teacher’s work and practice in ways that promote a socially just, democratic and ecologically sustainable world.

Entry requirements

Applicants to Flinders University Master of Teaching Primary must hold an approved undergraduate bachelor degree or equivalent qualification with a minimum 70% GPA. The Master of Teaching (Primary) is a pre-service teaching degree and admission normally will not be granted to applicants who already hold a teaching qualification in the same area.  Selection is based on academic merit. and non-academic selection criteria.

Applicants must complete a non-academic assessment task known as a Teaching Capabilities Statement as part of their application to demonstrate their motivation to teach, their strong interpersonal and communication skills, willingness to learn, resilience, self-efficacy, and strong organizational and planning skills.

Successful completion of this program will enable you to apply for registration with the Teachers Registration Board of South Australia. You are advised to check registration requirements as they are subject to change. Graduates looking for employment in other parts of Australia and overseas may be required to meet additional conditions.

Graduates of Flinders University Master of Teaching Primary are eligible to apply for licensing in Canada, however, it is critical students understand the requirements needed to complete this process before licensing will be granted.
