About the Master of Teaching (Secondary)

The Master of Teaching (Secondary) offered at La Trobe University in Australia is a postgraduate entry program.

You’ll graduate well versed in the diverse academic and developmental needs of young people. Professional experience is based around inquiry and experiential learning with iterative skill development opportunities linking knowledge, context and experience to understanding the theoretical dimensions needed to understand practice in school and other learning contexts. You’ll complete 60 days of professional experience during the Master of Teaching (Secondary) at La Trobe University.

Entry Requirements

Applicants undertaking the Master of Teaching Secondary at La Trobe University must hold a Bachelor degree or approved equivalent in a relevant discipline area/s for primary or secondary teaching as per the National Program Standards and the Victorian Institute of Teaching.  For secondary teaching, students must qualify in either one double (Drama, Mathematics, Physical Education, Commerce, and Visual Arts) or two single method-teaching areas from the listed disciplines: Arts, English, Health, Physical Education, Humanities, Languages, Mathematics, Outdoor education, Science, SOSE and TESOL.

Applicants must also take a non-cognitive assessment test called CASPer, and it is completed online.

Professional Recognition

Professional Recognition in Canada

La Trobe University’s Master of Teaching (Secondary) is accredited by the Victorian Institute of Teaching (VIT). Professional registration may require an application to the professional body and may have additional or ongoing requirements beyond the completion of the degree.

Graduates of La Trobe’s Master of Teaching programs are eligible to apply for licensing in Canada, however, it is critical students understand the requirements needed to complete this process before licensing will be granted.
