About the Master of Teaching Practice (Secondary Education) at RMIT in Australia

RMIT’s Master of Teaching Practice (Secondary Education) is designed for graduates from any discipline who now wish to teach in secondary schools.

Over the course of your studies you’ll build the practical and technological skills you need to become a teacher and develop a deep theoretical understanding of how students learn.

This master qualification emphasizes industry experience and theoretical understanding, and features guidance from academic professionals to give you the skills you need to make an impact on the lives of your students.

  • educational research and inquiry
  • integrating information and communications technology with teaching practice
  • 21st century teaching and learning skills
  • evidence-based teaching practice

You will graduate with specialist knowledge in education, fully prepared to become a teacher who makes an impact.

Enrolled students are required to complete a literacy and numeracy test in their first year of study. Students are allowed a maximum of three attempts and the test must be passed by the end of the first year of enrolment in order to graduate from the program.

Entry Requirements

Applicants must have successfully completed an Australian Bachelor degree (or equivalent overseas qualification) in any discipline which includes a major in a specialist area and a sub-major in a second specialist area with a minimum of 65% average or a GPA 2.5 (out of 4.00).

You must sit the CASPer test. CASPer is a requirement for many of the initial teacher training programs in Victoria. It is a non-cognitive online test designed to assess your personal and professional attributes.

The Master of Teaching Practice (Secondary Education) at RMIT is subject to accreditation by the Victorian Institute of Teaching (VIT) for registration purposes. It is well recognized throughout Australia, although graduates will have to check with the individual registration authorities in other states and territories.

Graduates of RMIT’s Primary teacher training program are eligible to apply for licensing in Canada, however, it is critical students understand the requirements needed to complete this process before licensing will be granted. Tim Pendlebury’s work-integrated learning (WIL) placement at Siemens was a springboard into a job at the global technology giant.

Professor Calum Drummond from has been awarded the prestigious Ian Wark Medal and Lecture for outstanding advances in chemistry and materials science research, and contributions to Australia’s prosperity.

Professor Drummond formally received the medal from the Australian Academy of Science and delivered the associated lecture at a presentation dinner in Melbourne on 5 July.

He was announced as the medal and lecture recipient in November 2017.
