Our Bachelor of Clinical Science / Doctor of Medicine program is an innovative degree that combines problem-based learning and clinical practice with leading theory and research. Taught out of our world class facilities, our School of Medicine is one of the most advanced medical training centres in Australia.
Since welcoming its first students in 2007, the School of Medicine has graduated doctors who are completing further training in the full range of specialty areas and who are making an important contribution to the care of patients.
From 2021, Western Sydney and Charles Sturt University will be delivering a Doctor of Medicine (MD) program together, making this program available on both sides of the Blue Mountains. . The Joint Program in Medicine is a five-year undergraduate entry degree that qualifies you to be a medical intern in Australia and New Zealand.
Medicine is a vertically and horizontally integrated curriculum, centered on problem-based learning. Four themes run throughout the course: patient care, health in the community, personal and professional development, scientific basis of medicine. Patient contact and clinical learning begins in the first weeks and continues throughout the program.
Our program is designed to prepare you for your future medical career. Combining a solid understanding of the medical sciences, a focus on experiential learning in clinical settings and supporting your professional development, our five year course is open to both school leavers and those with some partial or completed university experience. Students will have access to state of the art research facilities and a brand new purpose built facility.
2025 Entry Requirements
Graduates will be eligible for registration by the Medical Board of Australia and its equivalent in New Zealand following successful completion of a period of internship or supervised training. You will also be able to apply for registration in a number of overseas countries.
In Canada, provincial and territorial medical regulatory authorities have the responsibility to confer licences to physicians. The Medical Council of Canada plays an important role in the assessment of potential physicians in Canada. This assessment includes national qualifying examinations and satisfactory completion of acceptable postgraduate training. It is the responsibility of the medical school graduate to contact the provincial body for regulations and requirements.
