Simplified Student Visa Framework (SSVF)

Applying to study in Australia just got easier! The Simplified Student Visa Framework (SSVF) streamlines the visa process for international students. The necessary information is gathered as part of your university application.

Please remember your student visa application is separate from the SSVF process. You'll apply for your visa after you've accepted a place on your course.
Australian Government Requirements
To help you have a smooth and successful study experience in Australia, it's important to understand your responsibilities as a student and the requirements of your student visa. Please take your time to carefully read the following sections and answer the questions.
The costs of studying and living in Australia.
For international students, here's some important information you should know:
  • The cost of your program, including yearly tuition increases.
  • On average, you can expect to spend about A$21,041 annually as a single person. If you have a partner, your combined living costs will be around A$7,362 per year. Each school-aged child adds roughly A$3,152 to your annual expenses, plus an additional A$8,000 a year for school fees.
  • Your round-trip airfare to and from Canada could cost between CAD$3,000 and CAD$4,500 or higher.
  • To study in Australia, you'll need Overseas Student Health Cover (OSHC) for your whole course. The yearly cost is roughly A$750 for a single person, A$3,500 for a couple, and A$7,000 for a family. You'll need to pay the full amount upfront.
  • To participate in some programs, you may need to meet certain Australian requirements, such as providing a Blue Card and completing health checks.
  • Applying for an Australian student visa requires a one-time payment of A$1600 for individual students.
Information on student visa requirements.

To get a student visa, international students need to meet certain requirements. These include, but aren't limited to:

  • To be considered a genuine student, please demonstrate to the Australian government your sincere intention to study in Australia for a limited time.
  • Please ensure you're enrolled in a full-time, registered course. If you plan to switch courses or universities, remember to meet all Australian Government requirements for international student visa holders.
  • To study at the university, please make sure you have enough funds to cover all your expenses. We kindly request that you have additional financial resources beyond any income you might earn while in Australia, as the university does not provide financial assistance for tuition or living costs.
  • Be able to demonstrate your English proficiency.
  • It's important to be a person of good character to enter Australia. All applicants will have their character assessed to meet the necessary requirements.
  • To participate in some programs, you may need to meet certain Australian requirements, such as providing a Blue Card and undergoing health checks.
  • Please make sure you have adequate health insurance throughout your studies, covering both yourself and any dependents. If you switch insurance providers, remember to contact the Australian Government for assistance.
Have you, your spouse, partner, or dependents ever had a visa application denied?
Have you, your spouse, partner, or dependents ever had any issues complying with the terms of a visa from another country?
Have you or your spouse/partner ever held an Australian student visa or any other type of visa in the past?
Do you, your spouse, partner, or dependents have any connections to Australia, such as property, family, or friends?

Will you be including any dependents on your student visa application?

Your family includes your spouse or partner, and your dependent children. The Australian Government defines a spouse as someone you're married to or in a de facto (common law) relationship with. A de facto partner is someone you're in a committed relationship with, regardless of gender if

  • They're completely committed to each other and their life together;
  • They have a sincere and ongoing relationship;
  • They share a home, or at least don't live completely apart, and they're not related.
Overseas Student Health Cover (OSHC)

When you receive your university offer, you'll be asked to get Overseas Student Health Cover (OSHC). Your university will usually recommend a specific provider, but you can choose another approved provider if you prefer.

If you decide not to get OSHC through your university, let KOM know.

Are you a citizen of Australia or New Zealand?

If you're an Australian or New Zealand citizen or hold dual citizenship with either country, you can't apply to Australian universities as an international student through KOM. Please apply as a domestic student using the university's domestic application process.
Do you hold citizenship to a second country?
We're nearly done!
Could you please confirm the following information for us?

Submission of fraudulent documentation in support of an Australian visa application will result in the application's rejection.
To get my visa, I understand I need to honestly show I'm a genuine student and meet Australia's character and health requirements.
To stay in Australia, I and (and my family I bring) need to have Overseas Student Health Cover throughout our visit.
I understand that if I can't pay my tuition fees, the university will cancel my enrollment, and this will also void my visa.
I understand my visa has work restrictions, and any money I earn will only help cover my living expenses; it won't be enough to pay for tuition.
I must let the university know if I move to a new address.
Regular class attendance and satisfactory academic progress are required.
If you're thinking about transferring to a different Australian university, please remember to check with the Australian Government about how this will affect your student visa.
