The University of Sydney’s Doctor of Physiotherapy program allows students to develop the ability to use highly-developed clinical reasoning skills to assess, diagnose and treat people with movement problems caused by a wide variety of joint, muscle, nerve and metabolic disorders. You will also learn to help people avoid injuries and maintain a fit and healthy body.
As a physiotherapy student, you will learn from leading academics how to use a range of drug-free techniques to treat and prevent injuries, as well as promote a healthy body. In addition to the high-profile sports side of physiotherapy, graduates also practice in roles that contribute significantly to the wider community, such as the management of neurological conditions, movement disorders, rehabilitation and recovery.
Entry Requirements
- A Bachelor’s degree, Master’s degree, or a PhD. The most recent degree should have been completed within the 10-year period before January 1st of the year in which the applicant intends to commence the Doctor of Physiotherapy.
- Demonstrated satisfactory performance in an eligible course at the time of application, as indicated by a weighted Average Mark (WAM). Standard applicants must have a minimum WAM of 70 or equivalent to be eligible to apply.
- Applicants for the Doctor of Physiotherapy course must have pre-existing knowledge in two essential areas:
- Human Anatomy: Study of human anatomy, particularly of the musculoskeletal, nervous, cardiovascular, respiratory, and renal systems.
- Human Physiology: Study of the physiology and histology, of the main systems of the human body.
Professional Recognition
University of Sydney’s Doctor of Physiotherapy program is currently undergoing accreditation with the Australian Physiotherapy Council (APC). Once accredited, graduates are eligible to apply for registration as physiotherapists with the Physiotherapy Board of Australia (PBA), overseen by the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA)
Students wishing to license as a physiotherapist in Canada should contact the Canadian Alliance of Physiotherapy Regulators for procedures and accreditation procedures. The CAPR is the national federation of provincial/territorial regulators in Canada.
