The Primary specialization has been designed to develop skilled, committed and flexible education professionals with the knowledge and pedagogical skills to promote effective and inclusive learning for teaching students from Reception to Year Seven.
The Primary specialization at Adelaide University includes core Education Studies, Curriculum and Pedagogy and Professional Experience. Professional Experience is the field-based placements that combine theory with practice. Professional Experience requirements must be completed on a full-time basis.
In the Primary specialization, students study Education courses, Children’s Learning and Curriculum Studies courses which examine the developmental, emotional and social psychological needs of learners, and the specific learning areas of the primary school curriculum. Students complete placements in primary schools from Kindergarten to Grade Six, totalling 65 days.
Adelaide University is working through relevant approvals for program accreditation ahead of students commencing in 2026.
Graduates of Adelaide’s Primary teacher training program are eligible to apply for licensing in Canada, however, it is critical students understand the requirements needed to complete this process before licensing will be granted.
