The Master of Teaching (Primary) curriculum at the University of Sydney is designed to prepare students for teaching all subjects in the Primary K–6 syllabus in NSW.
As well as learning about the policy frameworks that shape teaching in NSW, Australia and internationally, students attend lectures and complete assignments about issues in teaching, learning and curriculum in all school years – from Kindergarten to the Higher School Certificate.
Because primary teachers are required to teach across a range of key learning areas (KLAs) from Kindergarten to Year 6 (K–6), applicants to the Master of Teaching (Primary) at the University of Sydney must have completed university studies in at least one of these to be considered for admission to the program. The minimum requirement is: at least one year of full-time equivalent study (normally 8 units of study) that is relevant to one or more KLAs of the primary school curriculum. The KLAs are:
English, Mathematics, Science and Technology, Human society and its environment (HSIE), Creative and practical arts, Personal development, health and physical education (PDHPE)
University of Sydney’s Master of Teaching (Primary) graduates receive accreditation from the NSW Institute of Teachers in Australia.
Graduates of Sydney’s Primary teacher training program are eligible to apply for licensing in Canada, however, it is critical students understand the requirements needed to complete this process before licensing will be granted.
KOM Consultants understand the process and requirements needed to enter the teaching profession in Canada. All students applying directly through KOM will be supported with the latest information on the accreditation process.
